Energy for Rural Zambia

The Project “Potential of nanogrids as a source of clean and affordable energy in Zambia” has the aim to create and simulate a model to produce affordable and renewable energy in rural areas of Zambia. The task needs to be dealt with based on off-grid technology.

Zambian Rural Community

In Zambia, the majority of the population has no access to electricity. In rural areas, even less than 4% of the people have access to electricity. The government aims to increase the total access to electricity to 50% by 2030. To achieve this goal the rural regions should be supplied with renewable energy.

Energy Production with Solar Panels

To generate renewable energy for rural inhabitants, solar panels are being used to produce around 6000 kWh/a of green energy on a daily basis. With this energy, civilians can potentially cook, lighten their houses or have new communication methods like cell phones.

Rural villages can be much safer!

The amount of energy the solar panels produce is based on a 10-household village with no existing electricity. They use fire to cook food and water, have no contact with the outside world, and are unlikely to live past 70 years old.¹
For them to rapidly advance, they need access to reliable electricity.

Exponential growth and a better future!

When people have access to electricity, life can develop extremely rapidly. Thus, the village will grow and need more electricity in the future. Therefore, solar panels are the perfect renewable electricity source since they can be added later, upgraded, recycled, or combined with different production sources.
